Exploring Yoga Breathing Techniques

It's time to go beyond just 'inhale and exhale'. Here are a few popular yoga breathing techniques that you can incorporate into your practice:

  1. Ujjayi Breath: Also known as the victorious breath or the ocean breath, thanks to its soothing, ocean-like sound. To practice, start with a deep inhale through your nose, then partially close your throat as you exhale, again through your nose. It might feel a bit like you're fogging up a mirror.
  2. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana): This technique helps balance energy levels. To practice, use your thumb to close off one nostril, inhale, then use your pinky to close off the other nostril, and exhale. Switch back and forth at your own pace.
  3. Lion’s Breath (Simhasana): A great stress reliever! Inhale deeply through the nose, then lean your head back and exhale through the mouth, sticking your tongue out and roaring like a lion. It's okay, nobody's judging.
